Activities and adventures in Puglia

Snorkelling
Visitors are drawn to Puglia because of its scenery but what makes them stay is the wide range of water-based activities available on site. One of the most popular activities, which is accessible to everyone, is, without a doubt, snorkelling. Immerse your head beneath the water and discover a colourful universe filled with coral and darting fish.
The best beaches for spotting starfish and anemones:
- Spiaggia di Mannacora: this beach, with its crystal-clear waters, is perfect for snorkelling.
- Zaiana beach: lovely beach, boasting emerald waters and a spectacular setting, nestled between cliffs.
- Baia di San Nicola: private beach belonging to the campsite.
- Cala del Turco: small, secluded cove with crystal-clear sea and rock formations which are perfect for discovering marine life.
- Tremiti Islands: a genuine underwater paradise with exceptional biodiversity, historic shipwrecks and even a submerged statue of Padre Pio.
Visitor highlight: if you keep your eyes peeled you may see some turtles or dolphins during your excursions.

Explore Gargano National Park
Do you fancy an exciting adventure? The Gargano National Park is the ideal playground for families with itchy feet. Set out on foot to explore Umbra Forest with its numerous hiking trails accessible to all. You’ll wander amongst white limestone cliffs, oak trees, maple trees, hilltop villages and karst plateaus.
You can also explore the park by bike following the trail from Vieste and Mattinata or around Lake Varano and Lake Lesina.
Visitor highlight: the circular trail around “Laghetto d'Umbra” lake. It’s a great way to explore the forest while enjoying the view of the lake. Make the most of your trip and visit the Tremiti Islands: the jewel of the Adriatic!

Cultural activities
How do you fancy taking a journey back in time and learning more about Puglia, its history and traditions? Visit some of the iconic sites in Peschici and take a leap back in time.
Start with Peschici castle. From its spectacular cliff top location, it offers a stunning view of the Adriatic. You’ll be captivated by the understated charm of the nearby Church of Sant’Elia which has played a central role in local life for centuries. If you follow the coast, you’ll come across the region’s iconic trabucchi. These old, wooden fishing structures, which are symbolic of the region, have been converted to bars or trendy restaurants.
Carry on to Vieste with its lively streets and famous Pizzomunno rock, both guaranteed to delight.
Our favourite: visit Calena Abbey, one of the oldest abbeys in Italy.
