Activities and adventures in L’Escala
Water-based activities at Cala Montgó
Cala Montgó beach is just 1km from our campsite. This beautiful stretch of golden sand is the perfect place for swimming, lazing in the sun or trying out water sports. Here are a few suggestions:
- Snorkelling: Put on your mask and tuba and explore the underwater world with your children. With a little luck, you’ll spot fish, octopus and starfish.
- Kayaking: Rent a kayak and set off with the family to explore the hidden coves and sea caves, such as Cova del Dolfí, a sea cave with sparkling waters and a magical atmosphere.
- Paddleboarding: The calm waters of the cove are ideal for a family paddleboarding session. Paddle gently to the nearby coves and then race your kids back to shore!
- Boat trips: Various service providers near the campsite offer excursions to the Medes Islands, a protected marine park. Enjoy a day of nature-spotting and beautiful sea landscapes!
A must: For an unforgettable experience, go snorkelling or kayaking at sunset. Golden light shrouds the landscape, and the peaceful atmosphere is a magical experience.
Land-based activities: Hiking and walks in the Costa Brava
The area around Cala Montgó is a haven for hiking fans and nature lovers! Here are a few walking and hiking suggestions for your holiday:
- Camí de Ronda: This coastal trail is punctuated by secret coves. From Cala Montgó, follow the path to L’Escala. Along the way, stop at Punta Ventosa for a rare and beautiful view.
- Hiking trail to Cala Ferriol: An easy trail, perfect for families. The path takes your through typical Mediterranean vegetation, including maritime pine trees. Your destination is an isolated cove of turquoise water, the perfect spot for dip far from the crowds.
- Punta Montgó climb: A relatively easy climb to an impressive summit. Once at the top, admire the breathtaking views of Montgó Bay and the Medes Islands in the distance.
- Trails to the Medes Islands: While the islands are accessible by boat only, the coastal trails overlooking them offer a multitude of stunning viewpoints. Bring binoculars to observe the wildlife from the coast.
History: Camí de Ronda was originally created to guard the coastline from smugglers. At present, it attracts hikers from around the world, thanks to its magnificent views, secret coves and fascinating history.
